Bienvenidos

Dear Parents,

Welcome to your child's music blog!

For those of you who don't know me, I am Srta. Primak.  I was born in Venezuela and love speaking and singing in Spanish.  In the music classroom I base my music teaching on the Orff method (from the same composer and pedagog who wrote Carmina Burana).  We sing, we move and we play instruments.  We are very fortunate to have a wealth of instruments in the classroom.  All the students from Kindergarten to Grade 5, will be exposed to the percussion instruments.  Students in Grade 1 will be playing the xylophones this year and their technique will continue to be developed in Grade 2.  Grade 3 students begin playing the djembe drums and the Grade 4 and 5 students graduate to the rest of the instruments available to us. All the songs that we will be singing will be in Spanish.  There may be some exceptions, however, Spanish is the main language of the lyrics that we will be learning.

This year will truly be an exciting year! For the first time, in what feels like an eternity, your child will participate in whole school assemblies.  They will have the opportunity to exhibit their learning and their musical talents to their classmates and their FAMILIES!!!!  I for one am terribly excited about this new chapter in our school lives.

Last year we were fortunate enough to return to the music room.  The Grades 4 and 5 students were introduced to our new set of ukuleles.  This year, in addition to the djembe, xylophones and myriads of percussion instruments, we will be playing everyone's favourite woodwind instrument; the recorder.  An email will come to Grade 4 and 5 parents in the near future with regards to how this unit will work.

I am very happy to welcome you back to our school.

Kindly,

Olga Primak
